when you find an academic source that’s perfect for your paper but it’s behind a pay wall

image

Deciding to cite it anyway base on the abstract, knowing your professor probably won’t go through and look up every source in works cited

image

if you guys want to read academic papers but they’re behind a paywall, get the chrome extension Unpaywall. when you visit a site that requires you pay for their journal to view the article, the extension will look for other open access sites that will show you the article for free, and it’s all completely legal. all that money goes to the publisher, the writer of the paper gets none of it. https://unpaywall.org

If you can find out an author’s name, contact them. They may be willing to email it to you.For free.

Check researchgate.net and academia.edu! Also authors’ professional websites.

Assume I’m dead and rotting when this isn’t reblogged from my dash.

Update from April 2017: Source: CNN Money, http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/05/news/us-womens-soccer-equal-pay/index.html “The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team is getting a raise, bigger bonuses and the same per diems as the men. The women’s team announced Wednesday that it had struck a new labor deal with U.S. Soccer, the sport’s governing body. For months, the women have said that their pay and treatment is unequal to the men’s team. The women will also get better hotel and travel accommodations and will be reimbursed for the years when their per diems were less than those of the men.” Finally some good news for the USWNT!

I just heard this woman say “you procrastinate because you are afraid of rejection. It’s a defense mechanism, you are trying to protect yourself without even trying.” and I think I just realized what was wrong with me.

Yep, this is a very, very common reason for procrastinating.  It’s also why procrastination, even though it’s often associated with laziness, is a fairly common trait in a lot of people with anxiety and perfectionism issues.

Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans, Michael Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places across Earth and the Universe.

exCUSE ME?!?!!??!??! TheYRE PAINTINGS?!??!!?!

SHUT UP I thought they were miniatures!!!!

It’s too beautiful. I could cry.

I love this because I’ll be watching a movie and think “how did they do that? Is that a building they built for this movie? Was it there beforehand? Is it cardboard or CGI? Is that actually some place on Earth that they’re filming?” And the answer to all of these now is “nope, that’s a painting”. I can’t believe some of the most iconic, familiar shots were paintings!
